HATS

This site is mostly a digital scrapbook of personal show and tell, less on formal work — have a look around — but here’s an overview of things I care about and do.

Like a lot of 21st century humans, I wear many hats. I wear a few in the propaganda department — a slightly pretentious way of saying I get a kick out of understanding people, problem-solving and working on persuasive ways to transmit messages.

I also code-switch between social scientist and creative technician. From critical causes to highly-regulated public and corporate realms, my powers span: research and insight; stakeholder participation and engagement; strategy; storytelling for change; education; behaviour and culture change; brand development; visual communication, systems thinking; service design, CX and journeys.

BLUES AND REDS

Humans see things differently, and need different things. Inclusivity, and human-centred design thinking are just as vital as the spark.

Ethnography and connecting with people are central to everything I do. I have spent time living and working with different people, in different places and with globally dispersed teams and contexts. Being mindful of how everyone else’s hat fits is the world we need to live in.

I’ve produced transmedia solutions, comms and reporting for NGO’s and human rights organisations, place-making and brand development for skyscrapers and worked on perception change for AI in health and social care. Taking the complex — and the sensitive — and transmitting this effectively at every level. I have storytelling-with-data and visual journalism hats too, and others for groovy things like CSR and brand activism. From co-design and outcome mapping, to case studies and reporting, I like finding out what matters most.

Projects with: Greenpeace, McGraw-Hill Asia, National Geographic Learning, Wanda Group, BlackRock, K11, UNESCO, ENABLE Scotland, SCVO, AgeUK, BUPA, Edinburgh University, City of Edinburgh Council, amongst other entities great and small… I’ve played for the blues, and the reds.
